Company ProfileWe have innovated a new class of mechanical scanner and flat optics to steer the laser beam to and from the objects. Our design utilizes the periscope concept to perform the scanning of the surrounding environment. The periscope mirror serves as a deflecting mirror to steer a column of laser beams which consist of various vertical elevation angles. The illumination source is made of a 2D VCSEL array that is first collimated through a collimation flat optics and then guided through a beamsplitter to a flat optics based beam deflector in order to generate a vertical column of beams with different elevation angles. The vertical column of diverging beams is then projected onto a mirror to deflect them to the intended elevation angles. When the beam get reflected from the target back into the LiDAR, it will get focused with a flat optics based focusing lens to steer the reflected beam into detector array. In addition as the periscope rotates, the rotating mirror will steer the column of laser beams across different azimuthal angles.
